Once Upon A Crime bookstore book list:
For those teachers & students who, finally on vacation from school, actually want to relax with a book set in "academia":
Victor Gischler, The Pistol Poets - hilarious, off-beat take of an English professor mixed up with (and forced to edit) an aging mob godfather's poetry. We're anxiously awaiting his Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse (July).
Carl Brookins, Bloody Halls - murder on campus. Local author.
Any of Amanda Cross' Kate Fansler series.
Kent Krueger's "Cork" O'Connor series. (Red Knife due in September, but the latest, Thunder Bay, MN Book Award winner, will be out in June in paper).
Philip Donlay, Category Five, and Code Black (a MN Book Award finalist). Both outstanding thrillers.
Anything by Michael Connelly. ( His latest paperback, The Overlook, includes an extra "final chapter" not printed in the hardcover release).
C.J. Box, Blue Heaven (an outstanding stand-alone thriller), and Blood Trail, #8 in his Joe Pickett series. (He's at our store on Tues. 5-27)
Michael Stanley, A Carrion Death. This is by two South African authors (one lives in Mpls. part time), and set in Botswana.
Marcus Sakey, The Blade Itself (pb), and At the City' Edge. non-series thrillers, set in Chicago.
David Housewright, The Rush McKensie series. St. Paul setting, local author, great P.I. series. Just released, #5: Madman on a Drum.
John Hart, The King of Lies (pb), Down River. Non-series, North Carolina setting. Angst ridden lawyers with family issues. Superb & literate.
Barry Eisler, the John Rain series. Japanese-American free-lance assassin. Exotic locations, action-packed, highly recommended.
Anne Frasier, local author with some supernatural undertones. Wonderful way with words.
For fans of "Dexter", three titles are available in the series, plus, of interest, is Bradley Denton's Blackburn, written some time ago, but also has a sympathetic serial killer who only targets people who deserve it - in this case encyclopedia salesmen, shady car mechanics, etc.
For "cozy" and lighter reading, several local authors with ongoing series: Monica Ferris, Laura Childs, and Jessica Lourey.
There are so many more - new hardcovers & paperback reprints by the "heavyweights": John Sandford, Harlan Coben, Janet Evanovich (due in June), James Lee Burke (July).

Kevyn talked to Jean today, a mom hoping to be an adoptive mother. She sent an email to her friends, here's some of it:
"I want to adopt a child. However, as a single woman, it becomes difficult to adopt through many traditional channels. Rather than spend the time and money fighting that battle I would like to pursue a private adoption. I am sending this letter out with the hope that you will pass it on to your friends and family and they will in turn pass it along to their contacts. Somewhere there must be a woman who is pregnant but not ready to start a family. I am so hopeful that there is someone who needs a loving family like ours to love and care for her child."
If you want to know more about Jean and her family or have a contact for her, she can be reached at (952) 294-4651 or email her at jean@jrimarketing.com.

What should Barb do? Here's Barb's email:
"We have been surviving fine in the last 5 years -- no cruises, but we have been able to give all three kids a vacation every year and they are not really in need of anything. The advice I need is do I take the full-time 40-50 hours a week position or stay at home for another 3 years until my baby is in Kindergarten?
"My kids are 10, 5 and 3. I do not have anyone to lean on as my spouse is an only child and both parents are gone. I lost both my siblings when we were in our teens. My parents are dealing with a very aggressive cancer and I also feel that I need to be there for them as well (probably since I am all they have left as well).
"Do I have too much guilt? Any advice your listeners can give would be appreciated."
Let me know what you think Barb should do!

Hey look what Nelson's up to; he sent Kevyn an update!
"Frank entered a contest this year at our favorite website...and guess what?
HE WON! So we are flying off to...get this!
PARIS for two days!
This is a trip for lovers, most definitely...
We are flying Air France FIRST CLASS to Orly...
Where a limo is picking us up...and taking us to the George Cinc!!!
Where we are going to be esconced in the HONEYMOON SUITE with a terrace view of the Eiffel Tower!
::::sigh::::
We have reservations for dinner at Maxims if we want to take advantage of it, or we have the option of having room service brought to our suite (Cristal included).
I don't think we'll budge!!
We do have the limo at our beck and call the entire time we are there, so we will probably be taking the time to go to the 'romantic' spots of Paris...
I am so excited, but had to take a few minutes from packing to email you.
So...you can have the folks inheritance...I get Paris...
neener neener"
