Closing arguments are expected Friday in the fraud trial of Minnesota businessman Tom Petters.
Defense attorney Jon Hopeman says he expects to rest his case early Friday. Prosecutors may call a rebuttal witness, but both sides expect final summations to begin before the day is out.
Petters has continued to insist that he was not responsible for a Ponzi scheme carried out at Petters Co Inc. He has pointed the finger at other associates.
During testimony Thursday, prosecutor Joe Dixon alleged that Petters’ desire to live the life of a captain of industry is behind the Ponzi scheme that cost investors $3.65 billion. Petters took offense at that suggestion.
