NDSU players on Jones Cup U.S. team

North Dakota State men’s basketball seniors Brett Winkelman and Ben Woodside are on the Athletes in Action team that will represent the United States in the 30th annual Jones Cup tournament.

Winkelman is a forward from Morris, Minnesota, and Woodside is a guard from Albert Lea, Minnesota. They’re part of an 11-man roster of NCAA Division I players from NDSU, Harvard, Michigan, UMKC, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Washington State, West Virginia, William & Mary and Xavier.

Former Dakota Wizards coach Dave Bliss is the coach for the U.S. team.

The team will play eight games in a span of nine days beginning Thursday in Taipei, Taiwan. The players also will do outreach activities including basketball clinics and an orphanage visit.

Other countries competing in the Jones Cup are Australia, Qatar, Jordan, Korea, Kazakhstan, Egypt and Taiwan. U.S. teams have won 15 titles since the tournament began in 1977. Jordan won last year’s tournament.
