Name: Allison Kaplan
Hometown: Edina, MN
Been with FM107 since: Since I met Lori and Julia backstage at the KARE 11 booth at the State Fair and they said, "We have to have you on! Donny! We have to have her on!" Haven't gotten rid of me since. I believe that was three years ago, or so? But it was only in January 2007 that they stopped making me sign in as a guest at the front desk.
What is your role at FM107?: Making sure the powers that be appreciate the importance of good jeans and great sample sales. A.k.a. co-host of Shop Girls.
What do you wish your role was at FM107?: I'm livin' the dream.
Share a favorite FM107 moment: The first time an author flaked out on a scheduled interview during a live show. I'd been talking up her book (not that I would ever so much as utter its title again) for a half an hour, and then she didn't call and couldn't be reached. New to the whole hosting game, I said into the microphone, "Let's be honest. The author stood us up. She flaked. And I am very, very bitter." Made for a funny moment, actually.
Share some behind the scenes FM107 gossip: Alexis Walsko steals a pen off a desk every week before our show. That's what they get for letting her into the building unchaperoned on the weekends.
List all of the "hats" you wear in your current life: As few as possible – they make my hair pouf out. In terms of jobs…mother, wife, shopping/style columnist for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, founder/editor of www.AliShops.com - the Insider's Guide to Twin Cities Shopping, radio host, volunteer and organizer of everything.
Describe any past fashion fads that you at the time embraced but now regret: It's a certain cobalt blue drop waist dress worn to a high school dance that continues to haunt me all these years later. I'm not going to apologize for pinning my jeans – it was a moment in time, you had to be there. But not having layers in my hair for many years was a colossal mistake.
Name a television character past or present that best describes your personality: Lorelai Gilmore – she talks fast, eats junk food, over analyzes everything and ultimately, is a good mother.
What's your favorite comfort food?: Nachos
If there was an FM107 reality show who would get kicked out of the house first?: Me. I hated camp.
Do you believe in love at first sight?: Too practical. But lust that potentially leads to love, sure.
First celebrity crush: John Kennedy Jr.
Latest celebrity crush: Jon Bon Jovi (I only like guys named Jon. Don't tell my husband.)
Name another person on this earth you would love to trade places with for a day (and why): Oprah. I'd like to feel the power, and those jewels.
Name the last good movie you saw: Knocked up
Name the last good book you read: "Potty Time!" (In it, Grover uses the potty for the first time. High drama. Happy ending.)
What TV show(s) are you currently hooked on?: I'm a slave to my demographic. Anything on Bravo, E! or the Style network.
